In my defence, I had already bid on this lid before I said that, however I think I've lucked out and could may well have got it right It's a rear seam, swivel bail lid and the heat stamp is A Stampings of Montreal, Quebec, Canada lid, buy now I'm not so sure as it has an S underneath the A heat stamp the the guy click didn't photograph or post on the auction. So it this a Schlueter dating m1 helmet shell please guys and what War, if any please??
For the life of me I cannot read the first name It is in fact a Schluter as can be seen by the S under the heat stamp and the circular welds on the rim. I'd agree with doyler on the paint, looks VN or later to me. I wouldn't put much into the name. Based on the tape residue I'd wager this one was just used in training and had a laundry list of owners. Agreed with dating m1 helmet shell else.

A late war schlueter, I own a few of these rear seam scheluters and this one does not have the original paint found on these late war schlueter helmets. Still a WW2 datinb helmet though, just a post-war used one. Ian, you are starting to spend quite a bit of money dating m1 helmet shell what is basically ratty looking, US army surplus with very little collector appeal. Please forgive me for saying that, but as I new collector I just really hate to see you spending your money and ending up with I'm not sure exactly what????
