Planning a girlfriend trip this September. We fly into Boston and will drive up to Kennebunkport for lunch. Trying to decide if we should just stop for a few hours in Portland then stay somewhere else before heading to Bar Harbor. Considering Boothbay HarborCamdenor Rockport.

Do you like Boothbay or Rockland area best?
It's a little over 5 hours from Boston to Bar Harbor even if you go the scenic Route 1. Unless you have something you want to do in Portland or Rocklandyou may want to go straight on and maybe plan to spend the extra time bwrs Boston.
Was your plan to make a circle route by crossing the White Mountains in NH and then going south on 91 or 93? Portland is a really great place to spend a night -- great art museum.
I would probably avoid Boothbay? Camden and Rockland are terrific -- as is the damariscotta area Bar Harbor 2 nights. North Conway 2 nights.
